015242 62330Why is my radiator cold at the bottom but hot at the top?
A radiator only warm at the top can indicate sludge or restricted circulation, although other faults can cause uneven heating. Bleeding is not usually the answer to a cold lower section. An assessment can establish whether cleaning, balancing or another repair is appropriate.
What causes a radiator to be cold at the top?
Trapped air is a common cause. Bleeding may help, but only follow the system's instructions with the heating off and the radiator cool. Sealed systems may need their pressure checked afterwards. If air keeps returning, arrange an inspection.
How do I top up boiler pressure on a Worcester or Vaillant boiler?
Worcester and Vaillant models use different filling arrangements, so there is no universal pressure top-up procedure. Check the exact model's user guide for its cold pressure range and permitted steps. Do not remove the casing or guess which valves to turn. If pressure drops repeatedly, or you are unsure, ask a qualified engineer to investigate.
What should I do if a radiator is leaking at the top?
A leak near the top may come from a bleed valve, plug or corroded metal. Turn the heating off, let the radiator cool and protect nearby surfaces if it is safe to do so. Keep water away from electrics, avoid loosening fittings and contact a heating professional.
How often should heating equipment be serviced?
Boilers commonly require annual servicing, but follow the manufacturer's schedule and any warranty conditions. Cylinders, solar thermal and underfloor heating systems have their own maintenance needs. Landlord safety obligations are separate from routine servicing, so make sure both are addressed.
